There was a farmer who had a horse and a goat…..

One day, the horse became ill and he called the veterinarian, who said: Well, your horse has a virus. He must take this medicine for three days. I'll come back on the 3rd day and if he's not better, we're going to have to put him down.

Nearby, the goat listened closely to their conversation.

The next day, they gave him the medicine and left.

The goat approached the horse and said: - Be strong,  friend. Get up or else they're going to put you to sleep!

On the second day, they gave him the medicine and left.

The goat came back and said: - Come on buddy, get up or else you're going to die! Come on, I'll help you get up.
Let's go! One, two, three...

On the third day, they came to give him the medicine and the vet said:- Unfortunately, we're going to have to put him down tomorrow. Otherwise, the virus might spread and infect the other horses.

After they left, the goat approached the horse and said: Listen pal, it's now or never! Get up, come on! Have courage! Come on! Get up! Get up! That's it, slowly! Great! Come on, one, two, three... Good, good. Now faster, come on...... Fantastic! Run, run more!
Yes! Yay! Yes! You did it, you're a champion!!!

All of a sudden, the owner came back, saw the horse running in the field and began shouting: It's a miracle! My horse is cured. We must have a grand party. Let's Cook the goat!!!!

Lesson:
Whatever you do, always mark a Cc to your boss.

HR Manager in Heaven!!!

One day while walking down the street a highly successful HR Manager was hit by a bus and she died. Her soul arrived up in heaven where she was greeted by God himself.

"Welcome to Heaven," said God. "

"Well, What we're going to do is let you have a day in Hell and a day in Heaven and then you can choose whichever one you want to spend an eternity in."

"Actually, I think I've made up my mind, I prefer to stay in Heaven", said the woman.

"Sorry, we have rules."

And with that God put the HR Manager in an elevator and it went down-down-down to hell.

The doors opened and she found herself stepping out onto the hell wt beautiful golf course. And a country club and standing in front of her were all her friends - fellow executives that she had worked with and they were well dressed in evening gowns and cheering for her. they talked about old times.
She met the Devil who was really a nice guy and She was having such a good time that before she knew it, it was time to leave.

Everybody waved goodbye as she got on the elevator.

The elevator went up-up-up and opened back up at the Pearly Gates and found God waiting for her.

"Now it's time to spend a day in heaven," he said. So she spent the next 24 hours around on clouds and playing the harp and singing. She had great time and before she knew it her 24 hours were up and God came and got her.

"So, you've spent a day in hell and in heaven. Now u must choose ur eternity,"

The woman paused for a second and then replied, "Well, I never thought I'd say this, I mean, Heaven has been really great and all, but I think I had a better time in Hell."

So God escorted her to the elevator and again she went down-down-down back to Hell.

When the doors of the elevator opened she found herself standing in a desolate wasteland covered in garbage and filth. She saw her friends were dressed in rags and were picking up the garbage and putting it in sacks.

The Devil came up to her and put his arm around her.

"I don't understand," stammered the woman, "yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and a country club and we ate lobster and we danced and had a great time. Now all there is a wasteland of garbage and all my friends look miserable."

The Devil looked at her smiled and said:
 ...
 ...
 ...
 ....
 ....

"Yesterday we were recruiting you, today you're an Employee".  Dedicated to all companies

A giant ship engine failed.

The ship's owners tried one expert after another,
but none of them could figure but how to fix the engine.

Then they brought in an old man who had been fixing ships since he was a young.

He carried a large bag of tools with him,
and when he arrived,
he immediately went to work.

He inspected the engine very carefully,
top to bottom.

Two of the ship's owners were there,
watching this man,
hoping he would know what to do.

After looking things over,
the old man reached into his bag and pulled out a small hammer.

He gently tapped something.

Instantly,
the engine lurched into life.

He carefully put his hammer away.

The engine was fixed!
A week later,
the owners received a bill from the old man for
Rs.100,000.

"What?!" the owners exclaimed.
 "He hardly did anything!"

So they wrote the old man a note saying,
"Please send us an itemized bill."

The man sent a bill that read:

Tapping with a hammer..  . Rs. 2/-

Knowing where to tap...         Rs 99,998/-

Moral of the story:

Effort is important,
but knowing where to make an effort in your life,
makes all the difference.

"Life doesn't change in ONE MINUTE,
but taking decision after thinking for
ONE MINUTE
can change life."

The construction of this temple was caused by Somanatha, a high officer under Hoysala king Narasimha III (1254-1291 AD) . It is a splendid example of the Hoysala style of architecture, it stands on a raised platform in the centre of a spacious enclosure having 64 cells. This 3 celled (Trikutachala) structure consists of 3 garbha grihas , 3 antaralas and a naravang. It has a mahadwara standing  on the east, the images of venugopala, kesava and Janardhana are installed in the cells which are surmounted by elegantly carved
sikharas.

The basement of the outer wall is highly ornamented with friezes of elephants , scrolls , epic and puranic scenes, small images with intervening turrets and columns with figures in between , number of gods and goddess and their attendants adorn the walls, the lathe turned pillars and delicately carved 16 different types of ceilings are the characteristic feature of the Hoysala art. The names of a number of sculptors i.e, Mallithamma , Masanathamma , Chameya , Bhameya etc are carved on the pedestials of the images. It is
observed that Mallithamma has not only carved the maximum number of images but also carved the northern sikhara that of Janardhana cell.

ChennaKeshava Temple , Somanathapura , Part 1 , Bangalore picnic spots

In this article we share our visit experience of "ChennaKeshava Temple"  at Somanathapura , a panchayat town in Mysore district which attracts with its serene beauty and historic spots - 140 kms from Bangalore.

Also known as 'Keshava Temple ' , this is one among the top master piece structures built by our ancestors dating hundreds of years. We cover in detail most of the parts of this temple we could explore -

History of this temple

Somanathapura the place which was earlier under the rule of the Cholas , was conquered by Hoysala Vishnuvardhana in AD 1117 . Later it was ruled by the Vijayanagara kings and wadeyars of Mysore. It became one of the foremost agrahara townships during the rule of Narasimha III. An inscription dated AD 1268 records that Somanatha Dandanayaka, an illustrious general of the Hoysala king Narasimha III , established an agrahara in Somnathapura and named it as 'Vidyanidhi Prasanna Somanatahapura' and consecrated the temple of Keshava. The temple is the most ornate and perfect model of Hoysala style of architecture. The temple facing east has three garbhagrihas on the west, north and south, all connected to a common pillared hall through a separate sukanasi. The western sanctum houses the image of Vishnu as Keshava. The southern has the image of Venugopala and the northern has image of Janardhana. The temple
stands on a high stellate platform and is enclosed in a spacious courtyard surrounded by pillared corridors with sub-shrines. The temple is known for elaborately carved doorways and beautifully executed ceilings of the Navaranga mandapa. The friezes of the basement , beautiful images of the deities adorning the exterior wall surfaces with names of the sculptors who carved them like Mallitamma, the highly decorated and beautifully proportioned super structure resting on the three sanctums , known for their poise and elegance render the keshava temple a perfect model of the Trikutachala order

This is one of the heritage sites and is maintained by the archaeological department of Karnataka.

Old Inscriptions
Inscriptions engraved on a huge slab standing in the Mahadwara and on the beams of the navaranga ranging in date from 1269-1550 AD,  give the details of the construction of the temple and several grants for the upkeep of the temple.

A man on a Goa beach was deep in prayer.

Suddenly, the sky clouded above his head and, in a booming voice, the Lord said, “Because you have been faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you one wish.”

The man said, “Build a bridge from Goa to Mumbai so I can drive over anytime I want.”

The Lord said, “Your request is very materialistic. Think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking. The supports required to reach the bottom! The concrete and steel it would take! It will nearly exhaust several natural resources. I can do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time and think of something better”

The man thought about it for a long time. Finally he said, “Lord, I wish that I could understand my wife. I want to know how she feels inside, what she’s thinking when she gives me the silent treatment, why she cries, what she means when she says nothing wrong, and how I can make a woman truly happy.”

The Lord replied, “You want 2 lanes or 4 lanes on that bridge?”

A bus full of passengers was traveling while. suddenly the weather changed and there was a huge downpour and lightening all around.

They could see that the lightening would appear to come towards the bus and then go elsewhere.

After 2 or 3 horrible instances of being saved from lightening, the driver stopped the bus about fifty feet away from a tree and said -

"We have somebody in the bus whose death is a certainty today."

Because of that person everybody else will also get killed today.

Now listen carefully what I am saying ..

I want each person to come out of bus one by one and touch the tree trunk and come back.

Whom so ever death is certain will get caught up by the lightening and will die & everybody else will be saved".

They had to force the 1st person to go and touch the tree and come back.

He reluctantly got down from the bus and went and touched the tree.

His heart leaped with joy when nothing happened and he was still alive.

This continued for rest of the passengers who were all relieved when they touched the tree and nothing happened.

When the last passenger's turn came, everybody looked at him with accusing eyes.

That passenger was very afraid and reluctant since he was the only one left.

Everybody forced him to get down and go and touch the tree.

With a 100% fear of death in mind, the last passenger walked to the tree and touched it.

There was a huge sound of thunder and the lightening came down and hit the bus - yes the lightening hit the bus, and killed each and every passenger inside the bus.

It was because of the presence of this last passenger that, earlier, the entire bus was safe and the lightening could not strike the bus.

LIFE LEARNING from this..

At times, we try to take credit for our present achievements, but this could also be because of a person right next to us.

Look around you - Probably someone is there around you, in the form of Your Parents, Your Spouse, Your Children, Your Siblings, Your friends, etc, who are saving you from harm..!

Think About it..  You will surely find that Person..!!      That's the BEAUTY of     Human Relations.

ISKCON , Rajajinagar , Bangalore tourist spots

Our team recently visited the ISKCON temple at Rajajinagar , Bangalore which is about 4-5 kms from the city center. In this article we share our experience of the visit.

ISKCON Rajajinagar

It was a Sunday morning when our team decided to visit the Malleshwaram old temples and then reach here as the final spot. It was burning hot  when they reached here at around 12.30 PM , we thought the temple may get closed soon. But to our luck as it was Sunday it was open till 2.00 PM so a sigh of relief. Few of us in the team had already visited , so they were aware of the systematic approach followed in this temple.

A quick history of Rajajinagar ISKCON -

As many of us already know ISKCON stands for International Society for Krishna Consciousness - which is a charitable trust which aims at propagating lord Sri Krishna's teachings from Sri Bhagavad Gita and Bhagavatam. It was consecrated during the year 1988 when the project started , the simple architecture was ready by 1990 and by 1997 the complete beautiful temple was ready. Since then it has been consistently attracting visitors all over the world. Today its in the midst of the busy surroundings , Apartments , Highways and Metros.

Whats up at ISKCON

There is lot more to do at ISKCON than a simple temple darshan. The entry to the temple is free . If you happen to visit the temple on a holiday or Sunday then you will end up standing in the queue for at-least 60 to 90 minutes to get the darshan due to heavy in pour of devotees all over. There is an arrangement made for special entry for a group i.e, Rs.300 for six person. This is really worth as you could quickly get on to the sanctums in 10 min , thats a big relief isint it . So if your group is less than 6 , you may think its not worth . But take our words - this is really worth. We luckily got another group , shared our tickets with them and managed to get darshan faster. Also in this special entry you get a very good amount of time to spend at each sanctum where the guards don't rush you. So if you happen to visit with you elders , you should go for this special entry.

The management of visitors is awesomely planned and well executed. At first , arrangements are made to collect the foot wear safe in a cover - token system , next the wallets and other important stuffs in cloak room , then as the queue passes first we get the darshan of Sri NarasimhaSwamy , then Sri Venkateshwara and finally Sri Krishna. Throughout the walk , all over there is an audio chanting 'Hare rama , hare Rama , Rama Rama , hare hare , hare Krishna Hare krishna , krishna krishna , hare hare' which is a good method to induce Bhakthi for that moment.

All idols are decorated with shining ornaments and mesmerizing to the eyes. One will at-least need a minute to review the idol. The main sanctum may be an octagonal tomb, with paintings depicting  Sri krishna's life right from birth till the end is awesome to watch. Idols of Sri Krishna Radha , Sri Krishna Balarama and Sri Nitagi Gauranga are pleasant to the eyes. The main sanctum is not less than a palace look. Also are idols of ISKCON guru Sri Prabhupada. When you take the special entry ticket you get a chance to go around the sanctum where we noticed different avatars of Vishnu are nicely framed.

Image collected from ISKCON website - evening awesome view

After the darshan , the big list of shopping centers starts - Books , CDs , Devotional songs , Bags , T-Shirts , Kurtas , Idols , key chains , photo frames , toys , eatables right from biscuits, samosas , cool drinks , ice creams till puliogre , Holiges. Oh ! One will end up spending at-least an hour passing through all these counters - all items are very tempting and costs little more when compared outside temple. For children there are stalls to watch animated krishna movies.

ISKCON being a charitable society stands by its name when it comes to serving food. The temple has a free lunch program to all visitors who may visit and take the prasada. At lunch rice sambar and rice butter milk with a pickle and curry are served . The hall may easily accommodate 200 people every 15 min. There is a small kalyani constructed next to this lunch hall . The view of the temple is very good from this spot. You may also donate to the AkshyaPatra trust of ISKCON here which works for the improvement of children.

Temple timings are as below -
Monday to Friday  : 4.15 AM to 5 AM , 7.15 AM to 1 PM , 4 PM to 8.20 PM
Weekends & public Holidays :  4.15 AM to 5 AM , 7.15 AM to 1.30 PM , 4 PM to 8.20 PM

Overall , a very nice spot to full fill a day with family , children and friends - a spiritual , tastier , shopping visit . Best time to visit would be early morning and by evening to get a good view of the surroundings.

Do visit here and share your experience. Check out our touring spots guide for more details on other spots

Nandi Theertha Kalyani temple , Malleshwaram , Bangalore tourist spots

Following our team's search of old temples in Bengaluru , we recently visited the 'Nandi Theertha Kalyani Temple' in Malleshwaram which is about 4-5 kms from the city center.

Nandi Theertha Kalyani temple - Arch entrance

This temple is dedicated to Nandi - the bull which is the vehicle of lord Shiva. Also referred as Dakshina Nandi Teertha Kalyani temple , as the Nandi idol is facing towards south. Theertha in kannada means the sacred water which the temple priest shares with the devotees. It is the water which is used during abhisheka of the idol, and Kalyani means a small pond. Behind Nandi idol , on large brass wall coatings - sculptures of Ganesha , Shiva Parvathi are embedded.

Nandi Theertha Kalyani temple - Inside

The speciality of this temple is the theertha/ water spring is coming out of Nandi idol's mouth and hits the shiv linga which is beneath this idol. Believed to be atleast more than 1000 years old this temple was recently identified during the 90s while forming the layout.  Although the exact source of this water is not known , some say it may be from Sankey tank , while some say it is the birth of Bangalore's Vrishibhavathi river.  This water is served as prasadam in bottles to devotees.

Nandi Theertha Kalyani temple - Nandi idol

Nandi Theertha Kalyani temple Kalyani - Turtles

The temple's small kalyani is another attraction for the visitors where many turtles and fishes are feeded. The open kalyani surrounded by stairs is the best place to relax and enjoy the place. The outer sanctum has all stone pillars with one small mantap where Ganesha idol is consecrated. Outside the temple is a small park and a well which too has few turtles.

Nandi Theertha Kalyani temple - Pillars

Temple is open for darshan between morning 7 AM to 12.30 PM and again at evening between 5 to 7.30 PM. Special programs and poojas are conducted here during Shivarathri festival. Opposite to this temple is Gangamma , Lakshmi Narasimha temple which attracts many visitors. We have not come across much temples in Bengaluru having a Kalyani , hence this is quite different for Bengalurians.
