Kolaramma temple , Kolar - Weekend destination

In this post , we share our visit experience to historic Kolaramma temple , Kolar - about 80 kms from Bengaluru.

Highlights of this spot :
  • More than 1000 years old.
  • Goddess Parvathi / Durga in the form of Kolaramma is worshiped here
  • Another Idol 'Chelamma' known as scorpion goddess. Devotees take blessings to guard against scorpio bites.
  • Has unique shrine of Saptha Matrikaas

Our team reached this spot taking the Bengaluru - Tirupati highway . Passing through narrow passage roads of Bazaar streets , we reached this spot covered by a busy residential area. It seemed there was some preparations going on for a procession program , temple's chariot was fully decorated parked on road.

20 feet stone entrance gave us a fort entrance look. On entering this L-shaped unqiue  temple - compound , dwaja stambha other small mantaps & park were visible . There were less visitors , hence we managed to get darshan quickly . On entering main diety sanctum , Saptha matrika idols were visible - we were about to just pass by , when priest stopped us and informed Kolaramma Idol was just beside the side of the sanctum & darshan to be taken by peeking on the side of main door. Temple construction resembles Cholas architecture , inscriptions carved depict on temple walls.

Temple is open between 7 AM to 11 AM during weekdays , extended till 1 PM on Tue , Fri & Sun & in evening between 5.30 PM to 8 PM . Overall a good spot to visit with family. Do visit this historic spot and share your experience.
